Decorating Sense: Fall is a time for change...with verticals!

Posted on September 15, 2015 at 1:45 PM Comments comments (0)

It's fall...like most people that means changing something in our home or to our home.  Did you know that the look of verticals have changed?  Verticals come in cloth and/or vinyl.  The patterns and the colors are amazing.  There are neutral shades as well as more vibrant tones.  There are swirls, designs, simple patterns, and/or solid patterns.

Verticals make life a little easier, because they are low maintenance.  They are easy to maintain.  You can use a damp cloth on the vinyl or the vacuum on the fabric verticals.  There are even verticals that have the look of a drapery.

Stop in to see the "new" look in verticals.  This might be the change to your home that you needed.

Cellular Shades are Cool for the Summer

Posted on July 8, 2015 at 12:50 AM Comments comments (0)

When I woke up today, the weatherman advised that it was going to be a very warm July day.  I started to think about my home and how cool and comfortable it felt on this hot day.  It made me start to think about my window treatments and how they keep my home cooler with the heat outside.

I have been decorating homes and offices for over 25 years, and still take classes and seminars on all of the newest and latest products.  I remember going to a course about window treatments.  The class was all about cellular shades.  The instructors told us that the cellular window treatments would keep the house cooler in the summer.  I was very doubtful and had to give them a try for my own home.  I thought they were very attractive looking, and would give a beautiful look to my home.  I am not doubtful any longer.  Not only do cellular shades keep your home cooler in the summer, but they make your windows look beautiful too.  They come in single cell or double cell.  The cellular blinds come in amazing colors and pretty patterns.  They can accent any type of decor.

I enjoy making people happy when they make the right choice for their home or office.  This product will truly make you happy that you selected it for your home and/or office.

That is why we are offerring this very special July Sale: buy four window treatments, get one free. So be sure to mention this blog post when you come visit us in Woodbridge.

My Staircase

Posted on March 19, 2015 at 2:55 PM Comments comments (0)

As a decorator, I like different.  I like the "wow" factor when I see something.  When I see a set of stairs, it is like a blank canvas to me.  What can I do with those stairs?  How can I make that staircase pop?  How can I create a unique look?  This is what goes through my mind.

I am a huge fan of stair runners.  I like to see about two inches of wood on each side of the stairs.  Since stairs and widths come in different sizes, your size many vary for your runner and also the amount of wood you expose.  You can make stairs look modern, traditional, simple, bold, or whatever you choose.  You can put your own decorating skills to your set of stairs.  I love a beautiful traditional look.  It gives the stairs an elegant look.  The bold colors, the different tones in the flowers, and the color hues are amazing.  However, not everyone likes a traditional look.  What about a solid color patterned carpet.  You will get a beautiful pattern in one color.  It is a unique look and you will be the talk of your friends. Or maybe a pin dot carpet.  It is a small pattern, yet simple.  This does not monopolize the stairs.  It enhances the staircase.  Maybe you are a little more daring and would want to do an animal print, which are very popular now.  Another look is a border rug.  Which is a pattern carpet on the inside and solid on the outside or solid on the inside and print on the outside.

Whatever you choose for your stairs, why not make them the focal point and decorate with your own flair and style.  If you do not feel you have the knowledge to do this, have a decorator make suggestions and help you with your staircase project.  It is something that you will look at for many years to come.  You want to make sure that you like how it looks and that it goes with your decor.

Changing Your Family Room For Less

Welcome to Decorating Sense part one.

We are all so tired of the cold and snow. We are all starting to get spring fever, and we want to make changes to our home, but we do not want to spend a fortune doing so. I have a wonderful idea for your family room. Do you want something that is durable, attractive, and inexpensive? Of course you do. Use commercial carpet in your family room and/or basement. They come in attractive colors, prints, and patterns. You just select a theme for your room, and choose a commercial carpet to compliment your theme. Commercial carpet is the least expensive and the most practical. You can install it over a felt padding and your new room could take on whatever theme you choose.

I have used commercial carpeting to compliment nautical themes, race car themes, even gardening theme rooms, and so many more. Get creative, find a theme for your family room/basement and choose your carpet. Soon your guests will be arriving and complimenting your new room
