How to measure for carpeting

Posted on October 6, 2018 at 9:20 AM Comments comments (0)

Decorating Sense....It has been brought to my attention that some people do not know how to figure out the amount of carpeting they would need for their room(s).  It is a little tricky to figure out exactly how much carpet that you would need.

Most carpets come 12 foot in width.  There are exceptions.  Some carpets, not as many as the 12 foot carpets come in 15 foot widths.  They are specially marked on the carpets if they do come in 15 foot widths.  There are even fewer that may come in 13/6 width, but we will save that for another time.

For example, if you have a room that is 12/6 x 18, what size would you order?  You can use a 12 foot carpet and order extra carpet and put a seam in it, because if you tried to put a 12 x 18 carpet in a room that was 12/6 x 18, you would be short of carpet, and would not be able to carpet the entire room.  Or you can take a 15 foot carpet (providing that the style that you selected does come in a 15 foot), and order a 15 x 18.  This would do your room without a seam.  You will have a little extra, but you will not have a seam.  Seams are not a big deal, if they are properly installed by a professional floorcovering mechanic.  Depending how much material is left over, you may be able to carpet a closet, or have a enough for a walk off mat.

Measuring for carpeting is tricky and may take a little practice.  I suggest that you always consult with an experienced individual who knows how to measure, and figure out your rooms for your home and/or office.

How to clean a cellular shade

Posted on March 15, 2018 at 3:40 PM Comments comments (0)

Decorating Sense....A little help in how to clean your cellular shade.  If your vacuum has an extension wand, you may find this very helpful.  If your vacuum comes with the soft dusting brush, I would recommend using it.  Attach it to the wand, and go from side to side on the lowest setting on your vacuum (if your vacuum comes with settings).  Don't forget to vacuum any dust that may be on top of the head rail.

Just another helpful hint.

Window Treatments for Sliding Glass Doors - Part 4

Posted on March 15, 2018 at 3:30 PM Comments comments (0)

Decorating Sense...Do you need an idea for that sliding glass door?  Why not verticals.  The vinyl S shape has a curve which makes it look more like a drapery on your door.  They are easy to clean.  You can wipe them down with a damp sponge or use a dry dust cloth.  They come in a numerous colors and patterns.  I like the S verticals, because they are beautiful, but also give you the privacy or sunlight that you may want.  I have also installed them on picture windows, and bow windows too.

Verticals come in beautiful fabrics as well.  There are so many patterns and colors to select from.  They are easy to clean and maintain as well.  We have used verticals in home theatre rooms.  They give you the darkness that you need for the theatre room while watching the movie, but you can also have the light that you may want when you are not watching the movie.  Just another helpful decorating hint.

Another Window Option - part 3

Posted on February 10, 2018 at 1:55 PM Comments comments (0)

Decorating Sense....When you want to highlight your room, but not necessarily your window treatments, why not use aluminum mini blinds.  They will give you the privacy that you want, but they will not take away from the decor of your room.

Aluminum blinds come in many colors, and are easy to clean.  We suggested aluminium mini blinds for a big bow window and a garden window in a customer's kitchen.  The owner wanted privacy, but did not want to take away from their Bistro theme which had vibrant red color tones throughout the kitchen.

The aluminum mini blinds comlimented the windows, however they did not take way from the big statues and objects that were in the kitchen.  Your eyes focused on the theme of the room, and not the window treatments.

Just another helpful decorating hint...Happy Decorating!

Window Treatments - Part Two

Posted on February 1, 2018 at 4:15 PM Comments comments (0)

Decorating Sense...Another idea for decorating your windows are either beautiful wood or faux wood blinds.  I suggest a coordinating matching valance which looks beautiful.  They come in different wood tones and different shades of white.  They can enhance any theme of the room, and are easy to clean and maintain. You can use the wood or faux wood blinds alone to have the focus on the window treatment itself.

I helped to decorate a room using a darker wood tone for a primitive country them.  The room looked amazing.  It looked like it was right out of a magazine.  Another room theme that I did was white faux wood blinds for a nautical themed room.  I liked how the white faux wood made the windows pop and added to the nautical theme.

Each room was completely the opposite look of other, and both looked amazing by using the wood and faux wood blinds.  Use your imagination.  Pick a theme and get started on your decorating project.  Just another helpful decorating hint.

The New Window Treatments - part one

Posted on January 15, 2018 at 10:25 AM Comments comments (0)

Decorating Sense....We are all so busy juggling our jobs, families, and our homes that we sometime do not have enough hours in a day.  Why not look for easier ways to decorate your home with beautiful window treatments.

I always want my home to look warm and inviting.  I decided to decorate my windows with window treatments.  I wanted to make my life a little easier, and it is easier to maintain the window treatments.  There are so many styles, textures, and fabrics to chose from.  I am a huge fan of window treatments.  One option is cellular window treatments.  They come in various colors.  The cellular window treatments come in single and double cells.  They come top down, and bottom up.  To give you sunlight or privacy.  What I really like is that they are easy to clean, and add a crip clean look to a room.

Cellulars can be used alone or with a fabric valence, drapes, or curtains.  I used a neutral color, double cell without draperies for a traditional home.  The furniture and the accessories were the focal point.  The cellular window treatments just gave enough of a statement without taking your focus away from the decor of the room.  Just another helpful decorating hint.

It's Getting Cold Outside

Posted on November 14, 2017 at 3:00 PM Comments comments (0)

Decorating Sense:  Now that the weather is starting to get colder, you are probably starting to think about some carpet for those cold floors.  There are so many styles and colors to select from.  For some people it is easy, and for others it is not such an easy decision to make when thinking about new carpeting.

If you need some decorating help, I would suggest bringing in a pillow from your sofa, a pillow case from your bedding, a paint swatch, or even photos to help you select colors.  Bringing in swatches of fabric will help you to selct the correct color tone.  You can use these decorating tips for your home and/or office.  Remember to look at your color selections under your own natural light to help you decide your color.  Sometimes the colors look different in a store, than they do in your home and/or office.  You may always want to look at those colors in day light and in the evening, because they will appear about a half of a shade darker under different lighting.  If you are skeptical about your color selection, ask the expert...I love helping customers with the color and style selections.

Color Options - by Decorating Sense

Posted on August 16, 2017 at 12:30 AM Comments comments (1)

I am always asked my decorating sense when it comes to flooring colors.  The "in" colors are still the neutral tones and shades.  Your first step should be to select your theme of the room.  The neutral tones are safe choices.  They go with anything, and you can change the look of the room at any given time with accents of colors.  If you want, you can always put splashes of color or objects throughout the room to coordinate with your theme.

If neutrals are not your first choice, you still have the option of picking different colors and shades for your flooring.  Maybe you are a red, a multi shade or patterns of different tones.  Whatever you chose, have fun decorating.  Pick a tone or shade that makes you happy.  Think of your theme, and decorate away.

Happy Decorating,

The Holidays

Posted on November 12, 2016 at 1:35 PM Comments comments (0)
Decorating Sense....I love to decorate and I love to change my decor with the seasons. Everyone loves this time of the year. It is getting colder outside and the leaves are falling. Family and friends start to gather. People start to decorate their homes and offices for the upcoming holidays. It is such a festive time of the year. I have an idea...if you want to add a little change to your home and/or office and want to give it a splash of color, why not make an area rug. You can choose the pattern, the color, and the size. Many times the pre-made area rugs come in patterns and colors that may not suit your style or your color palette. What if you can choose your own color, choose your size, and choose if you want a pattern or not. It sounds like you can get exactly what you want. I have made many different types of area rugs for many different types of themes. The area rug will give a warm look and feeling to the home and/or office. Remember... you can add a rug and change the look of the room. Wouldn't it be fun to choose what you want your rug to look like, and have it made? Why not see what would look good in your home or office today. HAPPY DECORATING! SHERRI

Neutrals are the "It" Color

Posted on October 17, 2016 at 2:40 PM Comments comments (0)

DECORATING SENSE....Have you noticed that the neutrals are the  "IT" color now?  The tones are the in the beige, gray, and greige families.  You can get creative by adding color accents to create the theme you are looking for in any room or office by starting with choosing a neural color palette for your carpeting.  The problem that I often hear from people is that they are concerned with stains on these neutral light color carpets.

I have this to say to the consumer...don't worry, because there are products that have Lifetime Stain Resistance Limited Warranties, Lifetime Pet Urine Resistance Limited Warranties, and Lifetime Fade Resistance Limited Warranties.  You can decorate with ease.  Choose your beige or gray tones, because you do not have to stress over stains.  Start thinking about your next decorating project with ease and comfort knowing that these carpets have stain protections built in them.

The most important thing to remember when decorating your room...enjoy your decorating project.

TIME TO CHANGE YOUR OFFICE

Decorating Sense....I love to decorate, and sometimes we forget about our office.  We want it to reflect who we are.  We can keep it professional looking, but add a little style and color to this room to give it a unique look.  It is a room that you spend a good amount of time in.  Why not make it a room that you really want to spend time in.

I would suggest a nice commercial carpet for your office.  You can pick a simple color or we can do a bold or subtle pattern.  The colors are endless to reflect your theme of the office.  There are many patterns and colors to choose from.  All you need is a theme, and we can do the rest for you.

The most important thing to remember when decorating your office... is to have fun with your decorating project.

Have you noticed?

Posted on July 1, 2016 at 12:00 AM Comments comments (0)

Have you noticed the flooring at commercial establishments lately?  I have!  Maybe it is because I am an interior decorator that I notice the flooring.  However, I am seeing more and more vinyl floors lately. They are LVP (luxury vinyl planks) or LVT (luxury vinyl tiles).

I have seen vinyl flooring in stores, hotel elevators, restaurants, hospitals, and many other places.  Are you wondering why?  Commercial establishment floors get a ton of traffic.  They need a product that can withstand spills, snow, rain, and is easy to maintain.  That is the answer why places choose a vinyl floor, because of its durability and the beautiful look of the product.  Think of how vinyl flooring will be in your home or office.

Did you know that vinyl floors come in the look of wood, tile, and patterns?  Visit one of our locations to see the selections of vinyl flooring.  You will be happy that you did.

Happy Decorating,

SHERRI

PS  I have vinyl flooring in my home, and I love it!  We have also put it in one of our stores too.
